To successfully register for AP Exams, students will need to register in BOTH AP Classroom and
Total Registration. Students should use the same email address for both websites. In addition, students should register using their legal name as designated in school records.

Registration in AP ClassroomAP Classroom is the actual test order through the College Board. Students will only need to set up an account one time during their high school career. Once an account has been setup, that same account will be used each year to register for AP exams.

Registration in Total RegistrationTotal Registration is the site where students indicate which exams they are taking and pay for exams. An exam cannot be ordered for a student if registration in both Total Registration and AP Classroom is not completed.

Important Registration Information
Registration Dates and Late Registration Fees:
AP fall registration for fall classes will close on October 25, 2023 at 10:59 p.m. and will reopen beginning January 14th. Spring registration will close on February 14, 2024 at 10:59 p.m.. There is no registration for AP tests after February 14, 2024. Students who do not register by the February 14th deadline will not be able to take a test in the spring of 2024. To correctly register for an AP exam, students will need to register with both Total Registration and College Board.
AP exams are $102 per exam plus administrative fees assessed by Total Registration. The cost of the AP Seminar and AP Research Exam is $152 plus administrative fees assessed by Total Registration. There is a $40.00 non-refundable deposit due for each exam at the time of registration. In addition, there is a $40.00 late registration fee per exam for registration occurring after October 25, 2023 for classes begun in the fall or tests registered as exam only tests.
Partial payments of $40 per exam plus a convenience fee per exam charged by Total Registration can be made to divide up the payments. Final payments must be made by February 14, 2024.

Join Codes:
Students will need a class join code to register for an AP exam on the College Board website. Class join codes can be obtained from the student's AP teacher. If a student is not currently enrolled in a class, he/she should contact Shane Weaston at [email protected] to obtain the correct join code. Students should ensure they use the correct join code for the class in which they are enrolled in order to avoid errors in registration.
***KVS Students: Students taking a course through Katy Virtual School (online courses for which students pay a fee) will need to join in AP Classroom twice. They will need to join using the join code provided by the teacher in order to gain access to the online resources. In order to register for the exam, KVS students will need to use the exam only join code provided by Tompkins High School. Students are not officially registered for the exam until the Tompkins join code is used in AP Classroom.

Free/Reduced Information:
Students on the current Free/Reduced lunch district list may apply for fee waivers during the exam registration process to reduce the cost of their exams. His/her registration will be put on hold in Total Registration until the request for a fee waiver is verified. The fee will be $25 per exam for Free/Reduced lunch registration. Students in special economic circumstances (Free and Reduced Lunch) MUST identify that need during the registration window. All requests for fee waivers must be made during the registration period for the exams to ensure proper arrangements are made for the student. Cancellations and Refunds:
If a student would like to cancel an AP exam for which they are currently registered, they must first log into their Total Registration account and request a cancellation for the exam. The student should then follow-up with an email to Mr. Weaston at [email protected] to verify the request has been made. For students in grade 9-12, there are no refunds for cancellation of exams past the fall registration deadline. There will be an extended deadline for seniors who have been admitted to a college and who have documentation that the college will not accept their senior year AP exam scores for credit. Seniors must request the cancellation by April 12th and email the documentation from the college to Mr. Weaston, AP Coordinator. Seniors should check with colleges or universities before registering for an exam to understand any policies regarding AP score acceptance.
